Unfortunately, manyl Hindu homes - specially so called 'secular' homes - do not have the environment for doing so. I always wonder if it is worthwhile following the Muslim tradition - which brain-washes the children with Quran from the age of four - and setting up pathshalas for spiritual education of Hindu children.
