Challenge: Name the Rishi

Can you name all the rishis (sages) below?

1.) This rishi was one of the seven greatest sages or Saptarishis. The Vindhya mountains that separate northern and southern India were once so high that they obstructed the usual trajectory of the sun. This rishi was chosen to subdue the growth of the mountains. On his way from northern to southern India, he asked the mountain range to facilitate his passage across to the south. In reverence for such a great sage, the Vindhya mountains bent low enough to enable him to cross. The Vindhya range also promised not to increase in height until he returned to the north. This sage settled permanently in the south, and the Vindhya range, true to its word, never grew further.

2.) This rishi was was a Vedic king, son of Atharvan, who turned into a great rishi. There was once a powerful demon Vritra, who was battling the devas. He could only be slain from a weapon made from the bones of a sage. This rishi gladly gave up his bones for the cause of the good, stating that it would be better for his bones to help them attain victory than to rot in the ground. The Devas collected the bones and Indra crafted the vajra from them, which destroyed Vritra.

3.) She was one of the many female rishis who wrote hymns in the Vedas. She was the wife of Rishi Agastya and is credited with spreading the fame of the Lalita Sahasranama (the thousand names of the Divine Mother).

4.) This rishi was the father of Drona. After being blessed by Shiva and Parvati, he decided that spreading the Vedic knowledge among the people and freeing society from poverty, disease, and war were his life’s objectives. He traveled far and wide and took many virtuous kings as his disciples. Prominent among them were Abhayavarti and Divodasa. He helped the virtuous kings in times of peril. With his help, a long period of peace was achieved, where people prospered both physically and spiritually.
