Speaker on Campus, by Darshan Soni
The Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh Speaker On Campus (SOC) series is steadily becoming a well-recognized event on college and university campuses across the United States of America. The Speaker On Campus series is a unique project which exposes the university students and faculty to different aspects of Hinduism through acclaimed experts on the subjects. While the universities in the United States provide the encouraging environment for awareness and practice of various cultures and traditions, rarely do we see events held specifically about Hindu Culture on the campuses. Speaker On Campus series is one step taken in this direction. The SOC 2007 covered more than 30 university campuses in 15 states with the help of 6 speakers.
HSS started the Speaker On Campus series last year and continued this year in the fall. This year, six charismatic and qualified speakers delivered talks on several topics related to Hindu Dharma. Their names and topics are as follows:
Speakers (Topic in Parentheses):
1. Shree Ravi Kumar (Vedic Math)
2. Shree N.V.S Raghuram (Yoga)
3. Shree Dr. Srinivas Tilak (Understanding Karma)
4. Shree Dr. Sree Sreenath (Vedic Math)
5. Shree Dr. Vimal Patel (Science of Ayurveda)
6. Shree Vijay Swami (Hindu Dharma and Ecology)
The lectures were organized by students and youth volunteers in different universities. Everywhere, SOC was met with great enthusiasm and appreciation from students, faculty, and the local community.
