A Shocking Misrepresentation

The following picture is from the New Yorker magazine (dated 1/8/2007, page 75). The picture shows a caricature of  Lord Vishnu smoking, talking on a cell-phone, consuming a beverage, performing an obscene gesture — all while driving a vehicle. The depiction is in extremely bad taste and reflects the utter insensitivity of the caricaturist  towards one of the most revered of Hindu Gods.

12.jpgWe at Hindu YUVA are very much hurt by this shocking depiction. By allowing such a depiction, the editors of such an esteemed magazine have failed to exercise their good journalistic judgment and furthermore have hurt the sentiments of Hindus. We strongly condemn this caricature and exhort the New Yorker to act positively and prevent further instances of the same tone from recurring.
