As soon as we hear word "Mathematics" it reminds us the hard time of our childhood. I never realized that Math can be so simple, so fast…
Shri Ravikumarji gave introduction of Vedic Maths, Vedic inventions, ancient Indian scientist and their inventions. Today world run on computer, we can't even imagine life without computers. These computers run on only 2 numbers i.e. 1 and 0. This 0 was invented by great Mathematician Aryabhatt.
The event started with some small arithmetic calculations in Vedic way. Some examples are listed below using some of those methods. I wish I would have known these methods from school:-).
1. Multiplication between 2 digit numbers when addition between Ekam sthan of two numbers is 10 and dasham sthan are same.
43 × 47 = (4×5)-(3×7) = 20-21=2021
88 × 82 = (8×9)-(8×2) = 72-16=7216
This method is based on Vedic Sutra "Ekadhiken Purven" one more than the number which is to the right.
2. Multiplication between any number and 99999…
123×999 = (123-1)-(9-1)(9-2)(9-2)=122-877=122877
589×999 = (589-1)-(9-5)(9-8)(9-8)=588-877=588877
This method is based on Vedic Sutra "Ekadhiken Neunen" one less than the number which is to the right.
Many similar quick methods were explained and participants also tried solving them on the board.
Some of the highlights of the talk are:
* Aryabhatta has mentioned that there are 7 heavenly bodies which have their impact on the earth; these 7 bodies are nothing but the 7 planets around the earth. Scientific society has removed Neptune from our "Suryamala". Vedic physics has already come up centuries back with the speed of light but because of no documentation and lack of knowledge about Sanskrit language, this information was never spread across the world. Nobel laureate Albert Einstein has said "We owe a lot to Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made."
* Modern mathematics has reached the counting till 10³° but Vedic Mathematics has calculations till 10 to the power 53 (I couldn't find any other way to show that number:-:-)), which is known as "Tallakshanam". Why do we have 12 months in a year, where did it come from? Why there are adjustments in calendar system? Why financial quarter starts from 1st April when New Year starts from 1 st January? All answers take us to the Vedic era of Indian Civilization and life style. Before Gregorian calendar came Julian calendar was used. Also it used to have just 11 months, due to which Christmas was not always celebrated in winter. So adjustment in calendar was very much required for which people were sent to India to understand our calendar system which is lunar system. Indian calendar system helped people in west to come up with the current calendar system. If you see the time when Vasco De Gama came to India , America 's invention we can come to the conclusion that Gregorian calendar system is totally based on India 's astrological science.
Shri Ravikumarji's knowledge about not only Vedic Math but also astrology, history literally amazed me. I felt very proud our own astrology, mathematics, physics. One of the astonishing fact about number 108. We know that Indians use 108 pearls, rudraksh or other stones to do "Jap". Also we have 108 names for any God. What is so special about this number 108. If we divide diameter of sun by diameter of earth answer comes out to be 108… If we divide distance between earth and sun by diameter of earth answer comes out to be 108… If we divide distance between moon and earth and diameter of earth, answer comes out to be 108… So, ancient scientists came to the conclusion that this is kind of magic number. It was really amazing to know this!
There were 18 people came for SOC. 3 students were non Indian, 2 non Indian professors were also present. After the talk one of the professor asked Shri Ravikumarji about Yoga. She requested if he can teach few asanas. Ravikumarji taught us some Pranayam. How "Oam" helps to release mental and physical pressure. How "Aa", "Au" and "M" gives exercise to stomach muscles, chest muscles and brain muscles. One of the important fact is while saying "Oam" we should divide the time for "Aa", "Au" and "M" in proportion of 25, 25 and 50 percentage. This kind of detailed information we seldom get in one and half hour. I felt that this is just tip of the iceberg. Shri Ravikumarji urged students to utilize this Vedic knowledge in their research.
Some of the students wanted to meet the Speaker personally after the talk. We had informal discussion after the SOC was over. Shri Ravikumarji told the history behind revival of Indonesia 's economy. We were lucky to see the 20000 Indonesian Rupee note where Lord Ganesha's picture is printed. Since then Indonesia is known as Tiger of South Asia. It was very satisfactory for everyone at the end of the day. Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh is commendable for conducting such an awesome talk.
